What is Shradh?
Shradh (श्राद्ध) is a set of offerings — water (tarpan), rice balls (pind daan) and food — made to three generations of paternal and maternal ancestors so that their souls receive nourishment and move forward peacefully. It is performed once a year on the death tithi (Barsi / Varshik Shradh) and collectively during Pitru Paksha. Pind Daan is the part of the ritual where cooked-rice pindas are offered and then given to a cow, crow or flowing water.

Who should perform Shradh
The eldest son traditionally performs Shradh, but in his absence any son, grandson, brother, nephew, or — where the family accepts it — a daughter or wife may perform it. Our pandit will guide the karta through every step.

What are the Shradh dates in 2026?
Pitru Paksha 2026 runs from 26 September to 10 October. Sarva Pitri Amavasya, used when the death tithi is unknown, falls on 10 October 2026.
Can Shradh and Pind Daan be done at home?
Yes. The annual Shradh and Pind Daan are routinely performed at home by a qualified pandit. A pilgrimage to Gaya is optional and usually done once, not every year.
I don’t know the exact tithi my father passed away. What do I do?

Can a daughter or wife perform Shradh?
