What is Sunderkand Path?

Sunderkand is the fifth chapter of Tulsidas’s Ramcharitmanas, telling of Hanuman ji’s journey to Lanka, his meeting with Sita ji and the burning of Lanka. It is the only chapter in which every undertaking succeeds, which is why families recite it when they want obstacles removed, courage in a difficult period, or thanksgiving after a wish is fulfilled. A full path takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.

Why families book Sunderkand Path

  • Obstacles and delays — stalled work, court matters, property disputes, job or visa delays
  • Health and protection — particularly where fear, anxiety or nazar is a concern
  • Shani and Mangal periods — Hanuman ji’s worship is the traditional remedy
  • Thanksgiving — after a new home, a child, a recovery or a business win
  • Regular sankalp — many families hold a path every Tuesday or on each Hanuman Jayanti

A Sunderkand Path mandali, or a single pandit?

Both work, and the right answer depends on the gathering you have in mind.

  • A single pandit ji recites the full path himself. This suits a quiet family sankalp with ten or fifteen people, a regular Tuesday path, or a flat where space is tight. It is the simpler and quicker option.
  • A Sunderkand Path mandali is a group — typically three acharyas with a dholak, harmonium and manjira — who sing the chaupais rather than recite them. Guests join in. This is what most families want for a housewarming, a birthday sankalp, a pre-wedding path or a society hall gathering, and it is what people usually mean when they ask for a sangeetmay Sunderkand or a Sunderkand mandal.

Tell us which you have in mind when you message, and we will send the right team. If you are not sure, describe the occasion and how many guests you expect, and we will suggest one.

Best days to hold it

Tuesday and Saturday are the traditional days for Hanuman ji. Many families choose a Tuesday morning or a Saturday evening. Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami and the Tuesdays of Shravan are especially popular, so book early for those.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Sunderkand Path take?

About 2.5 to 3 hours for a full recitation. A sangeetmay path with singing usually runs a little longer, around 3 to 3.5 hours.

Can you arrange singers with harmonium and dholak?

Yes. Tell us when you enquire and we will send a group for a sangeetmay Sunderkand rather than a single pandit.

Do you send a Sunderkand Path mandali?

Yes. Our mandali is usually three trained acharyas with dholak, harmonium and manjira, who sing the path so that guests can join in. We arrange mandalis for homes, society halls and offices across Delhi NCR. If you would rather have a single pandit ji recite the path quietly, we can do that too.

Can you do a Sunderkand Path in a society hall or office?

Yes. We regularly arrange paths in society community halls, temples and offices as well as homes. Tell us the venue and the expected number of guests and we will size the mandali and the sound arrangements to match.

How many people should attend?

Any number. Most families invite 10 to 40 relatives and neighbours; we can also arrange a path for a society hall or an office.

What should the family arrange?

A clean space with mats or dari for guests, a small table for the Hanuman ji photo or idol, and the prasad. The pandit brings the rest.

Which areas do you cover?

All of Delhi NCR — Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad.
