What is Durga Saptashati Path?
Durga Saptashati — also called Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path — is the 700-verse hymn to the Goddess drawn from the Markandeya Purana. It is arranged in 13 chapters across three charitras: Prathama (Madhu-Kaitabha), Madhyama (Mahishasura) and Uttama (Shumbha-Nishumbha). A complete path takes about 3 to 4 hours, and is preceded by the Argala, Keelak and Kavach stotras and the Navarna mantra.

Frequently asked questions

About 3 to 4 hours for the complete 700-verse recitation with Argala, Keelak, Kavach and the closing havan.
Is Durga Saptashati the same as Chandi Path?

When is the best time to hold it?
During Navratri, especially on Ashtami or Navami. Outside Navratri, any Tuesday, Friday or Ashtami tithi is considered suitable.
What should the family arrange?
A clean space for the Devi sthan, seating for those attending, and the bhog. The pandit brings the shringar and all samagri.
